Regardless of personal meaning, one thing is for sure. Tyson embodies strength, wisdom, and freedom – as do many of the other inspirations that he has tattooed on his body–and his tattoos represent who he has been, is now, and will be in the future.
Lomachenko was considered over the hill by many entering the Devin Haney fight. After all, Loma struggled to a decision win over Jamaine Ortiz prior. But against Haney, Lomachenko proved that he’s still elite.
However, the fight did happen and Mike knocked out Clifford after just one round. “I was happy for Mike that he won, but I was also upset that I had trained him for eight weeks and I wasn’t a part of that win,” he said.
Down a warehouse-lined stretch of Paterson, New Jersey, a heavyweight boxer pounds the punching bag in an otherwise quiet gym. Boxers aren’t an unusual sight in this small town just a few miles from Manhattan; most notable among homegrown products are former WBO junior welterweight division rankings boxing titleholder Kendall Holt and Rubin “Hurricane” Carter, the hard-hitting middleweight contender who was the only man to stop Emile Griffith.
After the 2008 Olympics, Dino Duva built relationships with the National Boxing and Taekwondo Center of the Department of Sports of China and obtained exclusive rights to market all Chinese boxers. As a result, Chinese boxers had little freedom to choose an alternative promoter. On March 10, 2014, the 31-year-old Zhang signed a four-year contract with Dynasty Boxing, a company 50% owned by Duva. Zhang was Dynasty’s first signing and Zhang had only one fight under Dynasty Boxing. Dynasty went bankrupt and closed down in December 2014.
Many Māori took issue with Whitmill suing for copyright infringement when the work was, in their view, appropriative of moko. Ngahuia Te Awekotuku, an expert on Māori tattoos, told The New Zealand Herald that ” t is astounding that a Pākehā tattooist who inscribes an African American’s flesh with what he considers to be a Māori design has the gall to claim … that design as his intellectual property” and accused Whitmill of having “never consulted with Māori” and having “stole the design”. Bloom suggests that Te Awekotuku’s argument could have formed the basis for a defense that the tattoo fell below the threshold of originality.
One of the biggest stars in boxing, Davis has added layers to his game over the years. He can walk opponents into concussive power shots — as he did in his May KO of Rolando “Rolly” Romero — but also outbox foes over 12 rounds with his southpaw jab. “Tank” has bounced between 130, 135 and 140 pounds, but appears to be settled at lightweight for the time being. He’s never faced anyone approaching the top level, and that will change if he emerges victorious from the Garcia matchup. A superfight with top contender Ryan Garcia is penciled in for April 15 in Las Vegas.
Following the setback, Zhang scored back-to-back inside-the-distance wins over Joyce, including a spectacular third-round KO in the September rematch. The pair of wins solidified Zhang as ESPN’s No. 5 heavyweight, and he was favored to defeat Parker, too.

Joshua has announced that he does not plan to fight again until December following this month’s points win over Jermaine Franklin, but Zhang still wants to force his way into the future plans of his former amateur rival, who defeated him on the way to claiming Olympic gold at London 2012.
At 34, Canelo may still have some prime-ish years left, and those years may well be spent at super middleweight, so his ranking here is very much subject to change. But based on what he’s done so far — ruling the division for the last four years, unifying all the belts, and beating several very good fighters but no great ones in their prime (while finding excuses not to face the top contender to his lineal title, a possibly great fighter in his prime) — this spot just inside the top 5 feels right. Smith, Plant, and Billy Joe Saunders were all undefeated when Alvarez beat them up. Gennady Golovkin was a nice name to finally put on his record controversy-free (if unimpressively). His work in this division in 2020 and ‘21 got him to the top of the pound-for-pound list, and it was only a failed jump to light heavyweight that knocked him out of consideration for that position. What a shame it is that Canelo hasn’t been willing to test himself against David Benavidez the way he was so eager to against Dmitry Bivol.
Mike Tyson is not the same ferocious fighter that he used to be. I wouldn’t go as far as to say Iron Mike has gone soft, but if someone told you in the 1980s that Tyson would be starring in comedy movies and doing interviews with Oprah in 25 years you would have laughed in their face. Not anymore.
